Five Basketball Gear Items You Should Take Care Of

Love the game of basketball? If you are a true fanatic, then you will know what it's like taking care of your own gear. It may be tiring, but keeping your gear in top condition will ensure that you not only look good on the court; it will also ensure that you give top performance with each game that you play.

So just what items in your basketball gear should you be taking care of? Well, you should be taking care of everything, and here is a list of those things and how you can care for them.

• Sweat bands – If you use sweat bands on your wrist or have one that you place on your head, make sure that you wash and clean them after you use them. You don't want to use a damp and dirty sweat band on your next game.

Make sure that you toss these items in the washing machine as soon as you are done with them. Leaving them wet will also attract bacteria that can then be transferred to your skin and the last thing you need is a skin infection caused by dirty gear.

• Ball – If you own your own basketball and it turns out to be the one that you use at games as well, you must make sure to also keep the ball clean. More importantly, make sure that it still has a good grip or else you may need to purchase a new ball.

The other thing to check is the air pressure of the ball. Pump your ball to its allowable limit and then check if the ball itself loses air over time.

• Jersey and shorts – Sure you may not be a professional ball player but if you are not wearing a jersey and shorts to play the game, you might be allowing too much heat to ruin your play. If you do own a jersey and shorts then other than keeping it clean, you must also make sure that these aren't damp before a game.

Sure, these may get damp while you play because of all the sweat that you will most likely produce, but wearing a damp uniform before the game isn't good for your health and it also won't help with your esteem at the beginning of any game. If you see that any of the clothing pieces are damaged, get it repaired or buy a new pair.

• Socks – Like the jersey and shorts, keep your socks clean and dry. But if you start to see the cloth of your socks starting to thin out, then you may need to replace them. Socks can be repaired but it's not advisable to wear old socks to any game so make sure you always have a good pair on during games.

• Shoes – Your feet will be doing all the work on the basketball court. This means that you should have a good pair of shoes and you should always keep them in good condition. Check the soles of your shoes for any running grip, replace old shoelaces, and keep shoes clean so that you can perform well and feel good on the court.
