Six Parts Of A Basketball Court To Keep In Mind

Playing basketball is a really fun pastime. Dribbling the ball and shooting can make anybody's day. The good thing about it is that you can play just about anywhere. Just as long as you have a ring you're fine.

But wouldn't it be great if you had a real basketball court to play in? Well even if you did, you would still need to know its parts so that you can have a proper game. Here are the parts of a basketball court that you should keep in mind.

1. Kind – Now there are different kinds of basketball courts. You have the indoor and outdoor basketball courts. The indoor basketball courts are made out of wood and some special kind of plastic. The outside courts are basically backyards or lots which are made out of cement or concrete. So be sure to know what kind of court you're going to be playing in because you might need to get used to it.

2. Center Circle – This particular part of the basketball court usually initiates a game. On the center circle, a tipoff is usually made to see who gets possession of the ball.

Also, the center circle is like a marker for each team. If a player bringing the ball has crossed the center circle, he can't cross back unless the ball is knocked out of his hand and goes to the other side of the center circle. This also includes his other playmates which may come into possession of the basketball. Remember to be aware of where you are.

3. Three Point Line – This area is located right after the center circle. This is where a lot of players shoot the ball in order to get three points that is if the ball goes in the basket. Also, if a player is fouled while making a three point shot, they are awarded three chances to score a single point on the free throw line.

4. Perimeter – This area is located right after the three point line. In this particular area, a player which makes a shot will be awarded two points. Also, if the player is fouled in this particular area while making a shot, they will be given two chances to score a point on the free throw line.

5. Low Post Area – This particular area is really close to the basket but is just about off the free throw line. In this area, players that shoot the ball and score are awarded two points as well.

6. Key – This is the colored area located right beneath the basket. The top of this particular area is where you can find the free throw line. In this area, a player holding the ball is given 3 seconds to either shoot the ball or pass outside of the key. This is also true for his teammates which also venture into the key.

Also, the free throw area located at the top of the key is where people who are usually fouled get a chance to score points for their team.

These are the major parts of the basketball court you should keep in mind when you're playing basketball.
